Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/OFPosition Projection

08/05/2009 - Pirate City World Series - Session 2 Shane continues to show steady improvements in his baseball abilities, especially on the mound. Arm strength has improved as he topped out at 81 mph. Fastball showed a range of 77-81 with run and sink. Changeup has really improved now showing a solid feel for with run and sink. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an average runner at 7.58. At the plate, McGraw shows an aggressive approach as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He was 3 for 10 with a 2B at the event.

04/26/2009 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Shane is a two-way player on the mound and in the OF with a thin frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and add muscle mass. Foot speed is below average and he needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active and aggressive in getting on proper routes and angles to track down balls in the OF. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum to target. Arm strength is slightly above average and would benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. He gets rid of the baseball quickly showing accuracy on his throws. At the plate, hitting abilities are slightly above average with average power. He displays solid balance from the start to finish allowing his hands to work freely through the zone. Swing path is long creating a pull type swing. He shows a solid feel for the barrel. Power numbers will increase as more overall body strength is developed. On the mound, fastball is flat on one plane. Changeup is best off speed pitch showing an average feel. Breaking needs further development to be a quality pitch at the next level. Shane has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
