  • C/1BPosition Projection

08/02/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Shane is a talented C/1B prospect who has a versatile skill set and graduates in 2019. Behind the plate, Shane is a very effective all-around defensive catcher. He has an athletic setup and moves with agile actions. Shane stays square to the pitcher and receives the ball with a strong, firm glove. He has a quick, clean exchange leading into a short, loose arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a quick release and his throws are consistently accurate with POP times ranging 2.06-2.18 seconds. He does a great job blocking the baseball. Offensively, Shane has an open stance with a centered balance. He has a fluid load with an open stride as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. Shane shows fast bat speed with an on-plane swing path producing consistent contact. He has the ability to drive the ball to each gap and use the whole field. Overall, Shane is a very strong defensive catcher with offensive upside to give him a bright future on the diamond.

12/18/2016 - College PREP - Madison (NYC), NJ Shane is a solid, athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, hands / feet work well together through a quick / clean transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.19-2.20 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel, sticking well in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process as he gets down and around, keeping balls in front. At the plate, he shows a tall, open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. With 3 years to further develop, Shane has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
