Official Scouting Report

  • 5Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

06/16/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Shane showed good stuff on the hill during his time in Omaha. He is a strike thrower with simple delivery and clean arm action. He has good direction toward home plate, lands with a proper length stride, and finishes in a complete position. Shane works on a downhill plane and shows good poise on the mound. In the INF, Shane fields in a square position, he makes plays cleanly, and has a loose/short arm action when throwing to his target. Offensively, Shane stands in the box comfortable with a square stance. He makes hard contact to the pull side and flashes some bat speed.

02/18/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Shane continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. At 3B, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around balls but will benefit by playing through more with his body. Glove action is soft but needs to present more out front. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 78-79 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his knuckleball, showing a feel for pitch with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

02/19/2018 - College PREP - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Shane is a strong, well-built RHP/3B prospect who has a versatile skill set. On the mound, Shane keeps his eyes on his target and pitches with good pace. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with a high effort arm action. Shane lands open to home plate and can benefit from a longer stride. He finishes with an upright chest. Shane has good run movement on his fastball at 79-83 MPH. His curveball has medium break and his changeup shows sink movement. Offensively, Shane has a square setup with a centered balance. He has a good load with a short stride. Shane has an on-plane swing path and utilizes his strength well. He does a nice job engaging his lower half throughout his swing. Shane shows the ability to drive the ball to the pull side with power. In the field, Shane works hard and makes all the routine plays. He fields the ball in a high position with a firm glove. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with a short arm action. Shane shows consistently online throws across the diamond. He also is smooth with his double play feeds. Overall, Shane is a well-rounded prospect who has skill on both sides of the ball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
