06/14/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Florida Shane continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has really improved, now a tremendous runner as indicated by his 60 time of 6.24. In the MIF, he uses his quick / athletic feet well in his lateral movements as he covers a lot of ground, displaying range. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he shows big play potential. Arm strength is at a pro level as indicated by his top 90 mph velocity. Throws display life, accuracy, and on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate he continues to show as a switch hitter but projects best from the right side. Hands are quick (94 mph exit velocity) generating bat speed through a direct / level swing path. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields, displaying gap to gap pop. Shane will get looks from the top collegiate coaches and pro scouts with his baseball tools.

09/19/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures East Shifflett is a versatile defender with usable speed. He ran 6.69 in the 60 yard dash and showed the ability to play both SS and CF. In the infield, he moved with quickness and life and featured the body control to make plays on the run and off balance. In the outfield, he got good jumps and was able to cover ground - offering a chance for a CF profile. A switch-hitter, he made a very similar move from both sides of the plate, but appeared to be a little more in control of the barrel from the right side - where each of his game at bats came from. His hands were quicker to the ball in games than in BP, and he showed the ability to keep them back on off speed pitches. Overall, a naturally talented “baseball player” with usable tools and a natural feel for the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
