Official Scouting Report

03/20/2021 - Spring Pro Training Experience - NJ (HS) Shawn continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting/power potential has improved through a closed setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time date. At 1B, he displays smooth, athletic actions. Feet are active as he displays proper foot work around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 53-56 mph. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

02/12/2021 - Baseball Factory Opening Day Classic (HS - East) Shawn is a tall 1B/LHP prospect who showcased his skills during the Opening Day Classic. In the field, Shawn makes the routine plays and works to make accurate throws to his target. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help Shawn field ground balls more efficiently. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a tall stance with comfortable hands. He works to barrel up the baseball and produces solid line drives. Shawn can create more consistent contact by working through a shorter swing path. On the mound, Shawn shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 56mph. Breaking ball sits at 45mph with 12-6 break. Striding inline toward the plate can help Shawn improve his pitch command. Overall, Shawn is a developing prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
