Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • Position Projection

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic Shawn is an athletic two-way player with good size, intimidating on the mound and is always looking to get better. On the mound, Shawn has a big frame, good mound presence, and has good feel for his pitches. A good slider compliments a well commanded fastball that he hides very well. Hitters seem uncomfortable against him. Defensively at 1B, Shawn has a strong arm, picks the ball out of the dirt very well and has proper footwork around the base. As he improves his flexibility, he will improve defensively. At the plate, Shawn has very good hand eye, delivers the barrel to the ball well and finished his backside through well. He simply needs to maintain slightly better posture and rhythm to become more consistent with his hitting mechanics.

09/29/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Scranton, PA Shawn is a R/L 2-way player as a 1B/LHP. Offensively, he shows a tall stance and heel lift load. He delivers the barrel with quick hands and is aggressive, driving the ball with pop to his pull-side. At 1B, Rapp shows good actions and quick footwork. He has plus range and can cover some ground. On the bump, Shawn has a 3-pitch mix coming from a compact delivery. He maintains good tempo and works at his pace. FB shows slight run and ranges from 66-67 mph. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Offense
1. Grip
2. Level out swing path
Defense
1. Wider base
2. Arm strength
Pitching
1. Eyes on target
2. Arm strength

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
