10/12/2016 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Shelby is a tall, athletic RHP/1B who has a tremendous future on the diamond. At 1B, he shows smooth / athletic actions. Foot work around the bag is solid and he is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure and consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. At the plate, he shows as a switch hitter with solid hitting abilities with outstanding power potential from both sides. Hands are quick (92 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Barrel accuracy is a plus as he shows plus power to all fields. On the bump, he shows a sound / repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose / free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 83-84 mph on a strong downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup showing a feel for pitch with sinking action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Mental makeup continues to show as a plus tool as he is a great teammate and is a student of the game. Shelby has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
