12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Silas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At the event, he was 3 for 5 with 2 3B. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean / transfer exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.48 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength. He shows a solid setup and soft glove action, sticking balls in the zone well. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process with skill improving as he improves flexibility. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 71 mph. Fastball shows a range of 67-71 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

10/15/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Georgetown, KY Silas is a stud, 2-way player as a C/RHP. Defensively behind the plate, he sits in a low/athletic stance with quick feet. He receives pitches with a soft mitt and gets rid of the ball with a quick/clean exchange. On the hill, this righty gathers over the rubber with a 3-pitch mix. He shows good poise and fills up the zone with strikes. As a hitter, Silas shows an athletic setup and gets back into a balanced load. He whips his barrel on a direct path with (++) bat speed through the zone and consistently drives pitches from gap to gap. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
