Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City Skyler worked out both in the INF and on the mound during his time in Pirate City. At 1st base, Skyler moves well around the bag, he keeps the ball in front of his body, and he makes plays on balls hit his way. On the hill, Skyler holds runners on base well, he competes in the zone, and he has some movement in his FB. At the plate, Skyler has a contact approach, he gets his hands in a good ready position, and he has some pop in his bat. Arent works hard and is only a few adjustments away from taking his game to the next level.

08/04/2013 - College PREP - Omaha, NE, IA Skyler is a tall 1B/RHP that will graduate in 2014. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level. He attacks ground balls and plays through well, presenting clean hands. Hands / feet are fluid and work well through the fielding process. He consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Throws are accurate as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are loose to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He makes consistent hard contact, mainly to the pull side and shows a feel for the barrel, flashing gap to gap power. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed range of 71-74 mph with arm side run on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He slows arm speed on his changeup, tipping off pitch to hitters with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. With 2 years to further develop, Skyler has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
