Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

09/29/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Charlotte, NC Sklyer showed some improvements in his game at his last workout. At 3B, Skyler fields on time, he makes plays, and he throws with a free arm action with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Skyler mixes his pitches well, he has good front arm extension, and he is around the zone with his pitches. Offensively, Skyler is slightly a better hitter from the right side, he swings aggressively, he has good balance, and his swing is level. The ball jumps when centered, and he gets his lower 1/2 through.

06/27/2013 - California Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Skylar is an athletic two-way player (3B/RHP) who is also a switch hitter. Defensively Skylar gets into a strong, low fielding position. He sees the ball into his glove and fields out in front. Skylar also plays the ball very well to his back-hand side and will continue to improve by quickening his footwork and staying on the balls of his feet. On the mound Skylar shows a lot of potential. He pounds the strike-zone and is aggressive pitching to contact. His ball has good movement and he uses his front side well. Skylar will get better by picking up his target earlier and not over-rotating his body at his balance point. Offensively Skylar should continue working on switch hitting as he shows potential from both sides of the plate. He has a good approach and makes consistent, solid contact from both sides. Skylar flashes gap to gap power when he lets the ball travel and should work on staying on the outside pitch. Overall Skylar has a lot of upside and could be a player to watch at the next level.

04/21/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Greenville, SC Skyler is a young, 2-way player with broad shoulders. At 3B, Skyler fields low, his hands are soft, and he makes the routine plays. He squares up well to the ball, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy from a short arm action. On the mound, Skyler has a short arm action, on-time separation, and he keeps his shoulders level. At the plate, Skyler has a tall / square set-up, good balance, and a level swing. He has good barrel accuracy and swings in good rhythm. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Quicken footwork
2. Field out front
3. Long toss
Pitching
1. Lengthen arm action
2. Finish
3. Balance point
Offense
1. Stride
2. Let ball travel

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
