01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Spencer showed again as a two-way player with Baseball Factory at the UAAAPS Tournament. Defensively, the 6'/180 lbs SS worked his feet actively to make plays with sure hands and a quick/clean exchange. He showed feel for making backhand plays and threw on-line to his targets. Offensively, he used his lower half well to generate bat whip and sprayed the ball to all fields. On the hill, he showed a three pitch mix, with a FB, 10/4 CB, and sinking CH. He gathered over the rubber to begin the delivery and worked effectively in the zone, changing speeds. He controlled the running game efficiently, while still repeating his delivery. Overall - Spencer shows the upward trend of growth from event to event with the Factory and will continue to improve his game as he gets to the next level this fall.

10/25/2017 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Spencer continues to show the makings of a special type player as he continues to improve his baseball tools. At the plate, he improved his power potential through a squared, athletic setup. He is aggressive and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat (89 mph exit velocity) when centered. At the event, he was 3 for 9 with a 2B. In the MIF, he utilizes his athletic feet well in his lateral movements, displaying range. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. On the bump, he shows a sound / repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose / free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 79 mph. Fastball showed a range of 78-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He throws a split finger that is a quality pitch with sinking action. Control is solid as he attacks hitters, throwing strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best he can be.

10/19/2016 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Spencer is a hardworking SS/RHP prospect who graduates in 2018. In the field, Spencer has good pre-pitch movement and active footwork. He presents his glove and fields the ball squarely with a quick exchange. Spencer has a loose arm action throwing from a low 3/4 slot. He plays with momentum towards his target with carry on his accurate throws. He looks smooth staying low on his double-play feed. Offensively, Spencer has a crouched stance with a square stride. He is athletic with his tempo and has an aggressive approach. He is a competitor and battles with two strikes. On the mound, Spencer throws with a loose arm action from a high 3/4 slot. He throws strikes and effectively changes speeds. Spencer's fastball has tail and he commands his slider. He also has a deceptive, sinking change-up. Spencer has good upside as he continues to develop his game on the field.

06/12/2016 - College PREP - Keizer (Salem), OR Spencer is continuing to improve his game at SS/RHP. In the infield, he active pre-pitch movement and works well to get around the baseball fluidly from right to left. He presents his glove out in front with soft hands, with the ability to throw from multiple arm slots. At the plate, this righty has a quick bat driving pitches to all parts of the field. Using more of his lower half will help Spencer to barrel up the baseball with pop. On the mound, Spencer throws a FB with good sinking action (73-75 mph). His slider has a late break making it tough for hitters to read. This RHP is balanced with a good arm slot, pounding consistent strikes in zone. Spencer is still young and shows improvement from the last 2 events at SS/RHP. He has upside and a bright future on the diamond.

07/25/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Spencer is a talented two way player that plays SS and also pitches. In the infield he showed a quick first step with good range. He fields with sure hands and is aggressive to the ball with great body control. At the plate he sees the ball deep allowing him to use the whole field with his line drive approach. He is a contact hitter that would be ideal at the top of any lineup at the next level. On the mound Spencer has a good mound presence and works at a good pace. His fastball has good arm side run and his curve shows late bite in the zone. He gets good extension and finishes his pitches well. Spencer should be a solid option in the infield or on the mound at the next level.

11/03/2013 - College PREP - Wilsonville (Portland), OR Spencer is a 2-way player as a SS/RHP. Defensively at SS, he works to get into a square fielding position, sinking his hips and fielding the ball out in front. He can make the tough backhand play and makes accurate throws across the diamond. Offensively, this righty tracks the ball into the zone and swings on a level path. He has some pull-side pop and hits the ball on a line. More lower 1/2 explosion will result in increased power at the plate. On the mound, Honald has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He has a repeatable delivery and works all parts of the plate. FB shows arm-side run and tops out at 67 mph. Splitter is best pitch and is a good out pitch. Following through and finishing out over his front side will help to improve mound effectiveness. Spencer is young and has a lot of time to develop his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
