12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Spencer continues to show solid tools and has a promising future on the diamond. In the MIF, feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Hands are clean and he presents well out front. Range is a plus as he utilizes his quick feet to cover a lot of ground. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive approach. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he has strength in his swing, flashing gap to gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 72-74 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Changeup is best off speed pitch as he shows a solid feel for with sinking action. He is aggressive and shows good mound presence. Mental makeup is a plus as he is coachable, plays hard, and is a great team player.

09/04/2016 - College PREP - Livonia, MI Spencer is a lean SS/RHP who has a bright future on the diamond. Foot speed is tremendous as indicated by his 60 time of 6.81. At the plate is where he shows best through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. At SS, he displays smooth, fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he works to square balls up. Glove action is soft and presents well out front. Hands / feet work well together and he shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. He moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground, displaying range. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 72-75 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Spencer has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
