06/12/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Augusta, NJ Spencer showed spikes in raw velocity (91MPH), hitting grades, and he ran his best 60 to date (7.66 seconds) during his last workout. He is a solid 2-way player with good overall skills. Behind the plate, Spencer has a good frame, active feet, and he sits in low and athletically. He tracks well, keeps the ball in front when blocking, and throws with accuracy and momentum to 2nd base. Pop times also lowered to 2.01 seconds. On the mound, Spencer has good balance over the rubber, a clean arm circle, and on-time hand separation. He repeats his delivery well, lands with a controlled landing toward home, and throws strikes. Offensively, Spencer can switch hit and is equally as good from both sides. From the right, Spencer has fast bat speed, a level bat path, and pop in his stick. From the left, Spencer has good balance, a direct swing path, and he makes square contact gap to gap.

10/03/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Trenton, NJ Spencer is an athletic C/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the diamond. Behind the dish, Spencer shows active footwork and covers up well when blocking. He sits in an athletic stance and presents a good target to the pitcher. His exchange is quick and he gains ground well on his throws, keeping them accurate/on-line to the 2B bag. At the plate, this switch hitter sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is smooth to load and works through a level swing, spraying the ball to all fields. On the mound, Spencer gathers over the rubber and works with a clean arm. He finishes with a controlled landing and rotates his chest square to his target. Spencer operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 78mph. Cutter sits from 57-58mph. Changeup sits from 64-65mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Overall, Spencer is a talented prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

09/03/2021 - Baseball Factory's All-Region Tournament (HS) Spencer continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.15 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength. He shows a squared setup, tracks well, and sticks balls in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls out front. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 78 mph. Fastball shows a range of 75-78 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

03/20/2021 - Spring Pro Training Experience - NJ (HS) Spencer continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter but projects best as a RHH. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through level swing path. He stays inside the ball utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.30 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a squared setup and presents a soft mitt out front. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get body down sooner. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. Fastball showed a range of 70-73 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

08/20/2020 - Summer Pro Training Experience - NY (HS) Spencer continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick and work through level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact with power showing best to the pull side. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.32 range and will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a squared setup and presents a soft mitt out front and utilizes his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well.

08/11/2020 - National Evaluation and Tryout - Trenton, NJ Spencer continues to shine on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body during the blocking process centering balls out front. Pop times showed in the 2.40 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. On the mound, delivery is sound, repeatable allowing his arm action to work loose through the plate. Fastball showed a range of 64-66 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with sinking action. He throws a sinker that resembles fastball with more arm side run. Split finger shows slight sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. He is aggressive as he attacks balls through a level swing path. Hands are quick and he makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side.

02/22/2020 - Baseball Factory Mid-Atlantic Combined Skills Training - Columbia, MD (Ages 14-18) Spencer has been to multiple events and consistently shows improvement. A switch hitting catcher, Nicely is a rhythmic hitter that shows consistent contact with a direct path to the ball from both sides of the plate. As a C, he works from a low stance with a good target. Excellent blocker and that shows good accuracy on throws. He can improve even more with shortening up his footwork to throw.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Spencer is a talented C/RHP that showed well at the Pre-Season Rookie All-American. Behind the dish, Spencer sets up in an athletic stance and receives the pitch with a firm glove. He keeps a square secondary as he works to gun the runner at second putting the throw on the bag with accuracy and strength. Blocking, he shows quick footwork getting squared on the ball and does a great job keeping the ball in front. At the plate, Spencer sets up in an open stance with comfortable hands and keeps his weight centered as he loads. He gets the barrel on plane early making consistent line drive contact. On the mound, Spencer shows a 2-pitch mix with a FB/CB. Pitching, he shows simple movements with a relaxed leg lift and separating his hands on time. He keeps his stride in line getting good extension to finish. Spencer can swing the bat from both sides of the plate and showed great at bats during game play. Spencer shows projectable ability to be a 2-way player at the next level.

12/20/2019 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Spencer continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.22. He gets rid of the baseball through a quick transfer / exchange with accuracy and carry on his throws. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 4 for 5 with 3 BB. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 68 mph. Fastball showed a range of 65-68 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a team player, coachable, and plays the game hard.

10/26/2019 - Mid Atlantic Regional Pitching/Catching & Offensive Skills Combined Weekend (Ages 14-18) Spencer is a coachable C prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Accelerated Training Weekend. Behind the plate, Spencer sits in an athletic stance and receives with soft hands. He gains momentum well on his throws and gets rid of the ball quickly. He is smooth moving to block and centers the ball in the middle of his body. Presenting a better target to the pitcher can help Spencer improve defensively. At the plate, this switch hitter sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and hits against a strong front side. He takes a direct swing with decent bat speed, leading to loud contact and line drives. Spencer can improve as a hitter by consistently maintaining center balance. Overall, Spencer is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

07/16/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Spencer is an athletic and talented 2023 C/RHP. Behind the dish, Spencer shows athletic movements with good posture, presenting a firm glove with quiet actions. He gets out of the hole well with a quick, clean exchange and delivers accurate throws with carry to the bag. Blocking, he works to center the ball and keep it in front. At the plate, Spencer sets up in a square/athletic stance getting a small load with a soft stride. He rotates against a firm front side making consistent contact with a gap to gap approach. Pitching, Spencer throws a 3-pitch mix with a FB, CB, and CH. The FB shows some arm-side run. The CB projects as a K pitch, and the CH shows some depth. He makes simple movements as he separates on time with a quick and clean AA. His stride finishes in-line as he rotates to his target. Overall, Spencer shows great potential as a true 2-way player.

03/10/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Manalapan, NJ Spencer lowered pop times (2.5 seconds), raised velocity (67 MPH), and showed spikes in hitting during his last workout with The Factory. He is a solid 2-way player behind the plate and on the mound. Defensively, Spencer has good footwork, agile movements, and he blocks the baseball well. He has soft hands, a clean exchange, and he throws with accuracy and direction toward his target. On the mound, Spencer has good mechanics, a quick/clean arm circle, and good command of his pitches. Offensively, Spencer is solid hitting from both sides of the plate. From the left, he has an aggressive swing, fast bat speed, and he makes hard contact to all fields. From the right side, Spencer swings in good rhythm, he stays connected, and he uses his lower body well.

03/02/2019 - Mid Atlantic Regional Hitting, Pitching & Catching Combined Weekend (Ages 12-14) Spencer is a coachable C/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Accelerated Training Weekend. Behind the plate, Spencer sits in a relaxed primary stance and tracks the ball into his glove. He gets into a low secondary stance and gains ground on his throws. He makes a clean exchange and produces good long hop throws to 2B. Spencer shows efficient footwork and centers the ball when blocking. Moving quicker to block can help Spencer improve defensively. At the plate, this switch hitter shows a solid swing from both sides. He sets up in an athletic stance and gets into his load smoothly. He drives through well with his lower half and produces solid gap to gap pop. Spencer can improve as a hitter by taking a shorter stride. On the mound, Spencer gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a free arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. Spencer shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 65mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits at 52mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 53-56mph with cutting action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Finishing square to the plate can help Spencer improve as a pitcher. With four more years to develop, Spencer has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

12/20/2018 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Spencer is a coachable C/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Winter Classic. Behind the plate, Spencer sits in an athletic primary stance and presents a good target to the pitcher, tracking the ball into his glove. He gets into a square secondary stance and gains ground when throwing to 2B, keeping his throws to the 1B side of the bag. He is agile moving to block on time and takes good angles to the ball. Receiving the ball more out in front can help Spencer improve defensively. At the plate, this switch hitter shows a solid swing from both sides. He sets up in an athletic stance with comfortable hands. He gets his hands activated and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to solid line drives. Spencer can improve as a hitter by working a smoother rhythm into his load. With four more years to develop, Spencer has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

11/03/2018 - Mid-Atlantic Regional Pitching and Catching Weekend (Ages 12-14) Spencer is an athletic and talented catching prospect that made several adjustments throughout the Mid Atlantic Regional Pitching and Catching Weekend. Behind the dish, spencer has a balanced primary and athletic secondary stance. When blocking, he leads with his glove, controls balls in the dirt with his chest, and shows flexibility to block side to side. He's a quiet receiver and works behind the ball. Spencer needs to continue to present an early target and beating the ball to the spot. Spencer has good footwork, but needs to exchange the ball in front of his body and create momentum into his throw with his lower half. Spencer has good feel for the position and will continue to improve with experience. On the bump, Spencer gathers over the rubber, he has a clean arm action, and extends thru his delivery. He has a controlled landing and good overall mechanics. He needs to continue to separate on time, ride his back leg toward the plate, and work north to south. His fastball has slight run and he needs to continue to throw his changeup with the same arm speed as his fastball. We hope to see his progress in the future.

10/13/2018 - Mid-Atlantic Regional Hitting Weekend (Ages 12-14) Spencer is a hard-working, switch hitting prospect that is coachable and made several adjustments during the Mid-Atlantic Hitting Camp. At the plate, Spencer that starts in a relaxed stance and has a middle approach. He creates rhythm in his load, and loads his hands back into the drive position. He hits off a firm front side and rotates his lower half into the ball. From the left side, Spencer needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and get extension with the top hand. From the right side of the plate, Spencer needs to see the ball deep into the contact zone, attack the inside part of the ball, and stay balanced throughout contact. Spencer is a talented prospect and will continue to improve with experience.

07/17/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Spencer is a coachable C/RHP prospect who continued to work hard on his skills during his time at the National World Series at Pirate City. Behind the plate, Spencer sits in a square stance and presents a good target. He tracks the ball well into his glove and has a clean exchange to throw, keeping his throws accurate to his target. Spencer can improve defensively by quickening his footwork to block balls in the dirt. At the plate, this switch hitter shows a solid swing from both sides. He sets up in a square stance and takes a short, square stride. He is fluid getting back into his load and comes through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing to the ball and produces solid contact to all fields. Spencer can improve as a hitter by quickening his bat speed. On the mound, Spencer shows a good rhythm as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm action and extends through on his release, finishing with his chest over his front knee. Spencer has a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 65mph. Breaking ball sits at 50mph with 11-5 break. Spencer can improve as a pitcher by keeping his eyes on target and by striding directly towards the plate. With five more years to develop, Spencer has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

02/24/2018 - Mid Atlantic Regional Accelerated Pitching & Catching Weekend (Ages 12-14) Spencer is a hard working and coachable 2023 Catching prospect that several adjustments during the catching and pitching accelerated training weekend. Behind the dish, Spencer has a low primary position and sees the ball into the glove. Continuing to present a low early glove and working behind the ball will allow him to control the ball post impact. Exchanging the ball in front of his body and creating momentum in his lower half will allow him to be a more accurate thrower as well. Spencer will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

02/10/2018 - Mid Atlantic Regional Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Ages 12-14) Spencer is a hard working and talented switch-hitting prospect that made several adjustments during the hitting accelerated training weekend. From both sides of the plate, Spencer loads his hands back into the drive position and stays balanced through contact. He uses his backside and drives the ball to all fields. He attacks the inside part of the ball and creates whip in the barrel. On the right side he needs to continue to keep his head down at contact and keeping his head down at contact. Spencer will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

12/17/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Madison (NYC), NJ Spencer is an athletic, 2-way player who can switch hit. Behind the plate, Spencer has efficient footwork, he sits-in athletically, and he centers well when blocking. He gains ground, has a clean exchange, and an accurate arm to his target. On the mound, Spencer has a clean arm circle, he works to his balance point well, and shows solid overall mechanics. At the plate, Spencer has a simple stroke from the left side, a proper load, and a direct barrel to the ball. He makes consistent contact and uses his lower body. From the right side, Spencer swings in good rhythm, has average bat speed, and swings a level stick. Spencer can improve overall abilities with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
