08/25/2020 - All-In Membership - Keizer (Salem), OR Spencer is an athletic (6'0"/160) R/R 2-way player (C/2B) who graduates in 2022. Behind the dish, he sits in well with athletic actions and flexion. He is quick laterally around pitches in the dirt and works to center/deaden the ball off of his chest. Transfer is clean with accuracy on throws down to 2B. Quickening his exchange will help pop times to continue to drop. At 2B, he has active prep and comes to get the GB picking out the hops well. He tracks the ball into a soft mitt and works in-line toward his target at 1B. With the bat, this RHH displays an open stance with a square/controlled stride. He jumps on pitches he likes and looks to drive the ball on a line. Working to swing on a shorter/more direct path with increased bat speed will help to increase hard contact consistency. Ross is a couple adjustments away from unlocking his potential on the diamond.

08/11/2019 - College PREP - Springfield, OR Spencer is a solid and athletic 2022 Catching prospect. Behind the dish, Spencer has a quiet primary stance, he presents a low target, and controls the ball in the strike zone. He has soft but strong hands when receiving. When throwing, Spencer gains ground but has a slow and long exchange. When blocking, Spencer leads with his glove, he controls the ball with a soft chest, and shows the ability to move laterally well. At the plate, Spencer starts in a tall stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He has a middle approach, he stays short to the ball, and hits low line drives. Spencer will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
