Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Spenser is an athletic 2-way play (RHP/3B) who continues to progress. Foot speed has improve as he now runs his 60 in 7.00. On the mound, this 6'1"/160 righty works to a tall/controlled balance point, has smooth separation and drives downhill off of the rubber. FB still sits in the mid 80's while showing late run. Hitters will have a hard time squaring it up and it moves well. Curveball compliments his FB well - with 11/5 shape and late break. He has good control, throwing strikes and works the zone in and out. As a hitter -Triplett has a balanced/athletic setup with a solid base. Hands are quick as he barrels the ball up with strength consistently. The ball jumps off of his bat when centered - exit velocity = 90 mph. Spenser has the versatility and athleticism to find to make things happen in an assortment of ways when he steps onto the field.

10/28/2015 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Spenser is a 2-way player with an athletic build and live arm. He showed very well during his time at the SoCal Classic. At the hot corner, he fields the ball with a quick first step, low fielding position and soft hands. He has a quick release as his ball shows life and accuracy across the diamond. Working on staying light on his feet and fielding the ball out front will allow his abilities to improve. At the plate, Spenser continues to hit with a line-drive type swing. His contact approach allows him to hit at the top of the order, as he barrels the ball up consistently with the ability to use all fields. As a RHP, Spenser challenges hitters with his 2-pitch mix and ability to command anywhere in the zone. He shows smooth/repeatable mechanics and will see velo rise as he starts to use his lower 1/2. He throws strikes and challenges hitters to put the ball in play. In all, Spenser is a very talented player with respect for not only the game but his coaches and teammates. He has a bright future ahead of him.

08/02/2014 - College PREP - Salt Lake City, UT Spenser is an athletic R/R 3rd baseman. At the plate, this RHH shows rhythm and works back into a strong loaded position. He hits the ball where it's pitched and can drive it the other way. At the hot corner, he works around the ground ball and into an athletic fielding position. He shows range to his right and left and gathers well. Ball is quick from glove to hand as he fires strong throws across the diamond. Only a 2016 grad - Spenser should have success over the next couple of years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
