Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Staley is a tall, solid 1B/RHP and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well outstanding hitting abilities with tremendous power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work to and through the baseball, creating extension. He is aggressive and attacks balls with power showing best to the pull side. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 77-81 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with tumbling action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is tremendous as he throws strikes with all his pitches and goes after hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Staley has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
