In the infield, Stephen reaches a square fielding position with the ability to keep the ball in front of him. He can work on his overall approach to the ball making sure he is working from right to left. Focusing on improving his foot speed through agility drills (ladder, hurdles, and cones) will help with this. At the plate, Stephen shows a good balanced approach with a level bat path and good lower half. His load is smooth with a short stride and good barrel control. Focus on getting loaded a little earlier and making sure he doesn't stride towards the plate closing his body off. Overall, Stephen is a great kid who shows a hard work ethic and the ability to play anywhere on the field. He has a good feel for the game and should show improvements as he physically matures.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
