07/28/2019 - College PREP - Washington, DC Stephen is an athletic C/3B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Stephen moves quickly to block and receives in a low stance. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws on-line to the 2B bag. At 3B, Stephen shows fluid footwork and flashes good range to his glove side. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistent with carry through his target. At the plate, this switch hitter shows a solid swing from both sides. He sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and hits against a strong front side. He takes a direct swing with plus bat speed, leading to loud contact and line drives. Overall, Stephen is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

04/28/2019 - College PREP - Charlottesville, VA Stephen continues to shine on the diamond as a prospect. Behind the plate, pop time showed in the 2.19 range with accuracy and carry (82 mph velocity) on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He tracks the ball well and presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls out front. At 3B, feet are active as he works to square balls up. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. As a LHH, hands work through a level swing path and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. As a RHH, he stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a level swing path through a line drive approach.

03/17/2019 - College PREP - Ashburn (DC), VA Stephen continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate he shows flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process as he utilizes his body well and is a wall. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.05 with on line zip (83 mph velocity) through his target. At 3B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter and has improved abilities as a RHH but projects best from the left side. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball well, utilizing all fields through and shows a feel for the barrel. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

03/10/2019 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Stephen is an athletic C/3B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Stephen shows active footwork and gains ground when blocking. He sits in an athletic stance and receives with a firm glove. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate and on-line to the 2B bag. At 3B, Stephen fields in a low position and works to make accurate throws to his target. At the plate, this switch hitter shows a solid swing, while currently being more advanced from the left side. He sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with good extension and fast bat speed, leading to consistent contact and line drives. Overall, Stephen is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

10/21/2018 - College PREP - Potomac, MD Stephen is a tall, solid C/3B who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best. He is a switch hitter that projects best as a LHH. Hands are quick (91 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and has strength in his swing with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. Behind the dish, he utilizes his feet well in working in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.22-2.31 with accuracy on his throws. Time will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. He displays a soft glove and sticks balls well in the zone but needs to quiet his body through the receiving process. He uses his body through the blocking process but needs to get down sooner. At 3B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active but needs to attack ground balls and play through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. With 2 years to further develop, Stephen has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
