12/05/2020 - Mid-Atlantic Regional Offensive Skills Weekend Stephen is a coachable 3B prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Offensive Skills Weekend. At the plate, this switch hitter sets up in an open stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth to load and hits against a strong front side. He stays direct through the ball and produces solid line drives. Overall, Stephen is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

09/13/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Ruther Glen (Richmond), VA Stephen continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At 3B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through a love approach. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy / carry (82 mph velocity) on his throws. Offensively, he continues to show as a switch hitter with well above average hitting / power potential from both sides. He has athletic/smooth actions with fluid rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation and delivers the barrel with leverage, resulting in a barrel explosion. On the mound, delivery is sound and repeatable allowing his arm action to work well to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 76 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with early break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 3B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and squares up well with his body. Hands are clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-69 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best he can be.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
