07/14/2018 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Stephen is an athletic and talented 2020 OF prospect. In the OF, Stephen is on time with an active prep step and he reads the ball off the bat well. He plays through ground balls, works behind fly balls, and creates momentum in his lower half when throwing to the bases. At the plate, Stephen starts in a tall stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and hits off a firm front side. He keeps his hands back on breaking balls and has a simple load. He creates whip in the barrel and drives the ball gap to gap. Stephen is a hard worker and a student of the game. He will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

02/10/2018 - Mid Atlantic Regional Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Ages 14-18) Stephen is an athletic and talented prospect that made several adjustments during the hitting accelerated training weekend. At the plate, Stephen starts in an open stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He keeps a quiet head and has a middle approach. Continuing to attack the inside part of the ball and using the lower half will allow him to stay compact to the ball. Keeping his head down at contact and keeping his chest behind his front knee at contact will allow him to stay behind the ball. Stephen will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

12/10/2017 - College PREP - Nyack (NYC), NY Stephen is a young, OF who will graduate in 2020. Defensively, Stephen has good pre-pitch actions, he attacks the ball aggressively, and fields out in front. He fields in a square position, has a clean exchange, and throws with accuracy from a long arm action to his target. Defensive skills can improve with an earlier glove, gaining ground toward the target, and added arm strength. At the plate, Stephen has an open stance, proper load, and a balanced approach. He has a direct barrel to the ball, can spray to all fields, and uses his lower body. If Stephen can transfer his weight better, swing more aggressively, and work on barrel accuracy, hitting numbers will further improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
