11/03/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Vinton (Roanoke), VA Stephen increased arm velocity to 57 MPH and exit velocity to 60 MPH during his last workout in Vinton. Behind the dish, Stephen holds a low target, he tracks well to his glove, and shows playable footwork. He has a clean exchange and an accurate arm to 2nd base. He lowered pop times to 3.03 seconds at the workout as well. At 3B, Stephen has good aggressiveness to the ball and shows good hustle. He keeps it in front of his body and throws with a high 3/4 arm slot across the diamond. Offensively, Stephen has a tall/square stance, good balance, and a level swing path.

07/06/2018 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Stephen showed good teamwork and hard work during his time in the Cape. Behind the plate, Stephen communicates well, he looks the ball into his glove, and tries to keep it in front when blocking. He has a good primary set-up, a clean exchange, and accuracy with direction to 2nd base. Offensively, Stephen stands in the box athletically, he loads well, and has a short swing path. He can spray the ball to all fields and he gets his lower body through the hitting zone.

04/29/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Charlottesville, VA Stephen is a young 2-way player who catches and plays 1B. Behind the plate, Stephen has playable hands and feet, and he tracks the ball into his glove well. He keeps it in front when blocking and throws to 2nd base with good accuracy. At 1B, Stephen has clean hands, he squares up well to the ball, and has a long/accurate arm to his target. At the plate, Stephen has an athletic set-up, a short stride, and he loads well. He puts the bat on the ball and can spray to all fields. Stephen can get better with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
