06/15/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Sterling is a versatile right handed 1B/OF with a strong work ethic and developing skill set. As a 1B, his footwork around the bag is pretty good and will be better with improved agility; he shows good range to both sides and does a nice job anticipating action his way. As an OF, Sterling showed some natural instincts and is an accurate thrower with good mechanics. He will benefit from a long toss program to improve arm strength, getting as many fly ball reps as possible off of live bat (BP) and continuing to develop power step in line to target consistently. At the plate, Sterling has a tall, simple set up with good rhythm in his load/stride before launching his hands with good bat speed through the zone. He finds ways to get on base, has good feel for situational hitting and will benefit from using his lower half more aggressively with consistency to improve power potential/production. Overall, Sterling is a great kid and plays the game the right way, with continued hard work and attention to detail in his preparation; he is on track to receive attention from coaches at the next level.
