01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Steve continues to show progress in baseball tools. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lower pop time to date at 2.05 with accuracy and on line carry on his throws. Feet are active, working in line to his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He plays with a ton of energy and shows the ability to handle a pitching staff. Glove action is soft / sure and he sticks balls well in zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process and is a wall behind the plate. At the plate, hands works inside the baseball as he utilizes all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered with power showing best to the pull side. He has strength in his swing (88 mph exit velocity) with power showing best to the pull side. Steve has a ton of potential and is a sure player to follow.

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Steve is a strong and athletic 2019 C/1B prospect. Behind the dish, Steve has efficient footwork and has good to back pick runners. He has good lateral movement and controls the ball in the dirt with his chest. Continuing to be in an athletic primary/secondary stance and showing a low target will allow him to work behind the ball. Having a clean exchange and a strong glove side will allow him to make strong accurate throws to bases. At the plate, Steve starts in an athletic stance, and loads his hands back into the drive position. He's aggressive on the fastball and uses the backside. Attacking the inside part of the ball and keeping his chest behind his front knee at contact will allow him to drive the ball to all fields. Steve is a hard working player and made several adjustments during the week. Steve will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

12/17/2017 - College PREP - Madison (NYC), NJ Steve is a big, athletic, 2-way player who catches and plays 1st base. Behind the plate, Steve has a good frame, he sits-in low and quiet, and his glove is soft. He looks the ball in well, keeps it in front when blocking, and has an accurate arm to 2nd base. Catching can improve with work on blocking, a quicker release, and added arm strength. At 1st base, Steve has active feet, he centers the ball well, and he moves well around the bag. He makes plays, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a short arm action with carry to his target. Softening his glove and playing more through the ball can help defensive grades get better. At the plate, Steve has an athletic set-up, a proper load, and he swings in good rhythm. He has fast bat speed, makes hard/solid contact, and he can drive the ball into the gaps.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
