07/18/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One West Steve continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power grades, now showing well above average abilities through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing, with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. At the event, he was 1 for 2 with 2 BB as he displays a solid eye and patient approach. At SS, defensive grades are well above average as he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are light as he moves well laterally flashing range in the MIF. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he shows big play potential. Throws are accurate with on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly, showing outstanding arm strength.

01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Steve continues to progress in his game. A talented young SS at (5'11/172), Steve shows a good pre-pitch ready position and fields the ball out in front aggressively. In the game, he displayed good routes to ground balls. At the plate, he shows a square setup with good balance. His swing path is direct to contact utilizing his lower half and hands together with barrel accuracy. When he has rhythm from start to finish through the hitting zone, and head still, he is consistent to all fields. A very young talented player with a well above average focus on getting better for the next level.

07/08/2013 - Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One West Steve is a young, athletic SS that will graduate in 2016. Feet are quick / athletic as he moves well laterally, displaying range in the MIF. He attacks ground balls, through a low approach, and plays through well while presenting hands well out front. Athletic abilities are displayed on his feeds / turns and slow roller plays as he makes all the plays with big play potential. Throws are accurate with life and on line carry into his target, as he displays outstanding arm strength. At the plate, Ybarra shows an athletic setup / approach. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and makes consistent contact with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half more. With 3 years to further develop, Steve has the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
