10/02/2019 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Steven is a coachable 3B/OF prospect who showed well during the Arizona Fall Classic. In the field, Steven takes a good first step and gets into an athletic position. He fields the ball out in front of his body and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate and on-line to his target. At the plate, this switch hitter shows a plus swing from both sides. He sets up in an athletic stance and takes a controlled stride. He is fluid getting his hands activated in his load and is explosive driving his lower half through. He takes a level swing with explosive bat speed, leading to loud contact and line drives. Overall, Steven is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Steven continues to impress our scouting staff as a switch hitting middle infielder that is entering his sophomore spring. At the dish, he showed quick hands and generated fast bat speed with his hand/hip coordination. He made line-drive contact from the right side and showed a spray approach from the left. In his AB's he collected a single, infield single (pressuring the defense), and an RBI 2B. At SS, he had active feet to make plays, and showed very impressive glove side range. His hands played clean and his glove was relaxed, allowing him to field fluidly. In all - Steven is a young, intriguing, MIF prospect that has the desirable switch hitting ability with pop.

06/16/2018 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Steven is a strong, athletic built SS/OF prospect who has a talented skill set. As a switch hitter, Steven has above average skill from both sides of the plate. He has a square setup with a centered balance. Steven has smooth rhythm with a good load and short, square stride as his lower half leads his swing. Steven shows fast bat speed with an on-plane swing path. He gets good extension producing consistent contact. Steven is a line drive type hitter who has the ability to use the whole field. In the field, Steven plays with quick, active footwork and covers good ground. He fields the ball with soft hands leading into a clean exchange. Steven shows a quick release throwing from a low 3/4 arm slot with a loose arm action. His throws are accurate with good strength across the diamond. Overall, Steven has the skill and approach on both sides of the ball to give him a bright future on the diamond.

In the field, Steven works hard and tries to create effective angles. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a high position. Steven has a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He has a quick release showing strong, accurate throws across the diamond. Overall, Steven is a well-rounded prospect who has the right approach on both sides of the ball.

01/12/2018 - 2018 Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Steven is an athletic and talented 2021 SS prospect. At SS, Steven has an active prep step and plays through the ball. He works from the ground up and has a smooth exchange. Continuing to work on agility and mobility exercises will allow him to improve his range to the ball. At the plate, Steven keeps a quiet head and stays balanced through contact on both sides of the plate. From the left side he has a good lower half and shows pull side pop. From the right side of the plate he attacks the inside part of the ball and gets extension through contact. Steven is a hard worker and we hope to see his progress in the future.

12/20/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Steven continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.28. Defensive abilities in the OF have improved as well. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. At SS, he attacks ground balls but needs to play through more with his body. Hands are clean and he present well out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter but projects slightly better from the right side. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact with power improving as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/26/2017 - College PREP - Shreveport, LA Steven is a lean, athletic SS/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he shows as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, flashing gap-to-gap pop. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At SS, defensive abilities are solid as he displays clean actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He needs to work to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. With 4 years to further develop, Steven has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
