12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Stephen is a two-way player who always competes his hardest on the field. He has made impressive strides, most notably in his blocking ability as he keeps everything close and makes tough plays. He is athletic behind the dish with agile footwork as he moves laterally to block. He works around the ball to receive with a firm wrist and gets rid of the ball quickly to second. At the plate, he shows fluid actions to load and launch. His lower half works well to rotate his core and he finishes on a firm front side to pray hits to all fields. On the bump, this right hander shows deception with his low arm slot. He has control of his fastball to the arm side and can get ahead of hitters to keep them off balance. Staying in line to the plate will help him control the ball to all quadrants. Steven is an interesting player we want to keep watching.

09/16/2018 - College PREP - Parkville (Kansas City), MO Steven is an athletic, strong catcher who will graduate in 2021. Behind the dish, he utilizes his feet well in working in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.37-2.58 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. He displays a soft glove and sticks balls well in the zone. He uses his body through the blocking process but will benefit by creating better angles to center balls out front. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 3 years to further develop, Steven has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
