01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Stephen showed once again a competitive nature with solid pitchability at the Under Armour Pre-Season All-America. On the bump, the 6'1/185 lbs righty threw his fastball consistently in the low 80's topping out at 84 MPH. There is even more velo in the tank which has not yet come out. As he continues to throw this spring, he will find added control and potential command as he stays loose and fluid with his delivery. In all - DiStefano is a solid young player that has strong intangibles and will help a program in the fall.

10/09/2013 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Steven continues to show as a RHP/3B, projecting best on the mound for the next level where he has a big upside. Delivery is sound / repeatable, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he topped out at 88 mph. Fastball showed a range of 80-88 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with sweeping action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. For stock to continue to improve on mound, he needs to work to throw more strikes. At 3B, feet are active as he works to square balls up, moves well to glove side, and displays soft / clean hands. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks ground balls, plays through and presents hands more out front. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup with balance. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve he needs to work to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. DiStefano has an upside on the mound where he is very aggressive with a solid mound presence.

09/18/2013 - Under Armour Fall Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One DiStefano competed well on the mound with his explosive arm side run with his 4 seam fastball. He changed speeds with his CB and CH, and kept hitters off balance. He stays low in the zone and is a ground ball inducer. Steven has present strength with good body control. He is a great teammate and is willing to play anywhere fit for the team to excel. We look forward to tracking Steven's continued success.

07/26/2013 - Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One North Steven showed solid mechanics, a loose arm, and the ability to throw strikes during his time on the mound at Team One. He keeps his eyes on target, works to his balance point well, and he has a good front side. His FB has A/S run, and he finishes in a complete position. Offensively, Steven tracks well, he has a middle approach, and he shows the ability to square the ball up well.

07/17/2013 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 2 In Steven's latest factory outing, he worked on his individualized skill. On the mound, he showed a good tempo and a repeatable delivery, pounding the zone, keeping hitters off balance and getting outs. With greater use from his lower half, he will see velocity jumps. In the infield, Steven is versatile enough to play any spot athletically with good glove presentation and range. Offensively, he has an athletic set-up, level path and good extension through the ball. In all, Steven is one of the most coachable, good energy players, that has a high ceiling with his desire to achieve his potential.

06/15/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Intangibly, there are not many players more desirable than Steven. Not only is he coachabale and hardworking, the kid is gifted. He has an exceptionally athletic, muscular build. On the mound, he throws three pitches for strikes with a devastating change-up that has arm-side run. He throws a lot of strikes and keeps a steady tempo, allowing the defense to make plays behind him. In the infield, he has soft hands, is aggressive attacking ground balls and is strong to throw. Offensively, he hits off a stiff front leg while generating some decent bat speed. He is aggressive attacking balls in the zone and stays inside well at contact. Overall, Steven is an athletic RHP/2B that ran a 7.25 sixty and currently projects best on the bump.

Additional Video Highlights *****FILMED DURING LESSON ON 5/23/2013***** Steven has made tremendous improvements over the last two months. He has a strong pitchers body with presence on the mound. Delivery is clean and repeatable with proper direction. Arm works well on the back and front side. FB has two plains and he can command it to both sides of the plate, does have arm side run and even some sink. His secondary stuff has really come along since his last filming. CH is a very good pitch, has deception and can be used for a strike or out pitch. Maintains his arm speed and has fade and sink. He is a strike thrower and outstanding kid with good grades.

04/21/2013 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Steven showed as a RHP and for the first time at 2B at the event. Currently, he projects best on the mound for the next level. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work well to the plate through a high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball shows a range of 77-80 mph with slight arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. At 2B, feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands. He needs to attack balls more and play through while presenting hands more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup. Hands are smooth and work through a level swing. For hitting / power grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to stay inside the ball and improve barrel accuracy.

12/27/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament Steven continues to show improvements in his abilities on the mound. Arm strength has really improved as he topped out at 83 mph. Fastball showed a range of 80-83 mph with arm side run. Off speed pitches show as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Command / control are a plus as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a bulldog on the mound, competing well, and does not get distracted. Getting better extension with his lead arm and finishing more complete will help him continue to become a better pitcher. Steven also was effective defensively and with the bat, and made adjustments especially with working on using all fields for hitting. His future is on the mound, where he has a lot of potential, especially given his arm strength.

08/06/2012 - College PREP - Bear (Wilmington), DE Steven is a tall and lanky RHP who has a good pitcher's build. On the mound, he delivers from a high 3/4 arm slot and has a loose arm action. He displays smooth rhythm, good glove side lead, and level shoulders. He has good lower 1/2 drive off the mound as he keeps his eyes on the target. His fastball has some very good run to it, and he has a smooth delivery while also finishing his pitches well. Mound effectiveness will improve as he becomes more consistent with his off-speed pitches. At the plate, he displays a square/athletic setup, solid load, and short stride. He squares up the ball and is a contact type hitter. DiStefano will continue to improve with hard work.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
