10/26/2014 - National Tryout - Stillwater (Minneapolis), MN Steven is an exciting prospect that we have watched grow throughout the past few years. His game continues to improve in all facets and with another two seasons left, he will groom himself to be a potential impact player at the next level. Defensively in the OF, he works his feet pre-pitch and is quick to take his first step to the ball. He has excellent body control, fields in front, and secures the ball with a sure glove. He works behind and through and is accurate to throw. Added arm strength and strength in general will add to his play ability. Offensively, he is aggressive to take hacks with his left handed swing. He stays in the middle with his approach and has good balance throughout. Improving his rhythm, but slowing his actions a touch will improve barrel accuracy and consistent hard contact. All in all - Steven is an exciting prospect with time on his side for next level play.

12/27/2013 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Steven showed some of his best tools to date at the Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic. He ran a 7.31 sixty and showed increased ability defensively. In the OF, he fields balls cleanly, works through the ball and has a quick release. He is aggressive and takes good angles to the ball. Offensively, he stays behind the ball, has a good lower and tracks well. He showed better rhythm since his last outing and should continue to improve for best hit ability. In all - with improvements little by little and his confident athleticism, Steven will make himself into a solid prospect in the outfield.

07/09/2013 - National Tryout - Minneapolis, MN Steven showed in the OF and on the mound for the first time at the event. He has improved his abilities in the OF where he projects best for the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. He utilizes his feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls through an aggressive approach. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power grades have improved as well through an open / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work well inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He shows a feel for the barrel but needs to get stride foot down sooner to work on time and continue to improve grades. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 67-69 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late breaking action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with cutting action. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained.

06/27/2013 - California Select Training & Competition Steven played well in the California Select Training event - both as a LHP and OF. In the OF, Steven took good angles/routes to balls, playing through with natural instincts. He is very reliable making routine plays and does a nice job of playing balls over his head. As a LHH, he makes solid contact with fast bat speed. He is able to repeat his swing path with good rhythm and an oppo approach. As a pitcher, he topped out at 66 MPH and threw a curve-ball with 1/7 shape for strikes. He was effective on the bump, with his ability to change-speeds and hit the zone repeatedly. Fitzsimmons showed his best sixty to date - 7.59 seconds - and proved he is a solid high school OF that projects well there in college.

11/08/2012 - Baseball Factory Training & Competition in Arizona Steve is a lanky, athletic OF that will graduate in 2016. Feet are active as he reads balls well off the bat and takes proper routes angles in tracking down balls. He needs to work on getting behind balls more to play through and improve foot quickness to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Fitzsimmons shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands work through a level swing path and he makes consistent contact. He needs to get his stride foot down sooner to work on time and increase bat speed to improve hitting grade. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to load and use his lower half more. At the event, he drew 4 BB as he displayed a solid eye. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard. With 4 years to further develop, Steve has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
