09/28/2008 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Steven is a two way player in the outfield and as a catcher. Foot speed is near average and he utilizes his feet well in taking proper routes in tracking down balls in the outfield. He does need to work on better angles in working to get behind fly balls to play through with momentum to target. Arm strength is average displaying some carry with solid footwork to throw. He does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength. Behind the plate, throws are accurate through a long exchange and arm action. He needs to polish up on exchange/transfer and shorten arm arc to lower pop times. He displays slightly average receiving and blocking skills. At the plate, McAlpine has average ability with near average power. Swing path is level, taking hands inside the baseball. He is a spray type hitter as he keeps his hands inside the baseball. Power numbers will increase as he creates more load and weight transfer through the lower half. Steven has abilities with a lot of room to improve.
