02/28/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Waco, TX Steven continues to progress on the diamond. This talented 2-way player has a very solid skill-set that is fun to watch. On the mound, he pounds the zone and throws strikes consistently with all 3 pitches. FB has good arm-side run which will get in on the RHH's. CH compliments his FB well with a solid speed differential. He works the ball in and out and will challenge hitters. In the OF, he covers ground with speed (6.92 60 yard dash). He gathers well and fires strong/accurate throws on the line. With the bat, this strong righty stands in with a solid base and waits for a pitch he likes. Quick hands whips the barrel to and through the zone. He connects with power and drives the ball to all parts of the park. Steven is a talented prospect who will play at a high level.

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Steven is a 2017 RHP with an interesting sinker/slider/fork ball repertoire. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot (occasionally varying the slot) from an unorthodox delivery. It is a deceptive look for hitters - especially difficult on right-handed hitters. His sinking FB creeps into the mid 80s and he complements that with a hard slider that has 3/4 tilt and a fork ball with late dive that he uses as his change. Steven also plays the OF and is an athletic defender whit a line drive LH stroke. He has a direct bat path and uses the middle of the field. Overall, the biggest upside looks to be on the mound as an effective reliever at the next level.

07/29/2015 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Steven continues to show as a RHP/OF with a promising future on the diamond, possibly at both positions. He showed very well during his time at the UASW 17U Tournament. In the OF, feet are active as he takes good routes / angles in tracking down fly-balls. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process and he moves well laterally, displaying range in the OF. At the plate, power outstanding as he swings with authority and connects with strength. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 79-82 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains are speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Off speed stuff show potential as quality pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. Steven has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

05/31/2015 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Steven is an exciting 2-way prospect (RHP/OF) who can make things happen. On the mound, this righty has an effective 3-pitch mix with lights out stuff. He repeats his mechanics and stays directional toward the dish. FB jumps out of his hand while showing some run, cracking the mitt at 89 mph. Slider has 11/5 shape with gradual action. Forkball has slight drop (71-74 mph). A little fine-tuning of his mechanics will allow him to be a force on the bump. Defensively in the OF, Steven hustles to his right and left working to get into position behind the fly-ball. He secures the ball with 2-hands, gathers well and has a clean exchange firing strong throws with carry (89 mph). Offensively, Steven displays a balanced approach with a solid base. He likes the pitch on the inner 1/2, connects with strength and pulls the ball with power. More lower 1/2 drive will help him to tap into more power potential. A 2017 grad - Steven has the tools that will turn some heads. He is one to keep an eye on over the next couple of years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
