  • LHP/OFPosition Projection

07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 White continues to show as a LHP/OF with solid / steady play in his baseball abilities. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 77-79 mph with arm side run / sink. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with fading action. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. He is in line towards his target showing level shoulders and good balance. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. He also can work on getting better lead arm action, a smoother landing, and sooner separation. His curveball continues to be his best pitch and that will get outs at the next level. In the OF, he utilizes his quick feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and working to get behind, playing through well with momentum to his target. He needs to work on getting better backspin on his throws. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup with rhythm. He has quick twitch muscles, and his hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more and he can also work on a smoother load. During gameplay he showed that he can run the bases aggressively and utilize his 6.88 60 yard dash speed. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a great teammate, works hard, and is very coachable. His athleticism will make him an attractive option at the next level.

04/21/2013 - College PREP - Bartlett (Memphis), TN Steven is an intriguing 2-way prospect as an OF/LHP combination with some quality tools. As an OF Steven uses his 6.88 speed and good routes to cover a lot of ground. His skills will allow him to play CF at the next level making him a valuable commodity. At the plate he is a slash-and-dash type of guy who has a direct bat path, a quiet head and uses the middle of the field well. As a pitcher, Steven is a deceptive lefty who hides the ball well, making his upper 70s fastball get on top of hitters quickly. His curveball has the makings of a quality pitch with 1/7 shape and tight rotation. He also mixes in a change with good arm action that has some run. Better extension and a quieter head will help his consistency. Overall, Steven is a 2-way guy to follow closely.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
