Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

05/19/2019 - College PREP - Poughkeepsie, NY Strachan is a strong 3B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2021. In the field, Strachan shows active footwork and covers ground well. He fields in a square position and makes a clean exchange. He throws from over top and keeps his throws accurate and on-line to his target. Keeping his hands low to the ball can help Strachan improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He shows plus barrel control and produces loud line drives. Strachan can improve as a hitter by working more of a load into his swing. On the mound, Strachan shows a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 67 mph. Breaking ball sits from 47-48 mph with 10-4 break. Cutter sits from 61-63 mph. Changeup shows good sinking action. Gathering to a balance point over the rubber can help Strachan improve as a pitcher. With two more years to develop, Strachan has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
