10/20/2019 - College PREP - Conroe (Houston), TX Straton is an athletic, 2-way player who plays 1st base and catcher. In the INF, Straton has fluid footwork, a presentable glove, and he fields athletically. He gets in a good ready position, his exchange is clean, and he throws with momentum and accuracy to his target. Continuing to quicken feet and add arm strength will help abilities at 1B get better. Behind the plate, Straton has active feet, he sits in low, and the ball sticks to his glove. He tucks his chin when blocking, he shows a clean exchange, and throws with accuracy from a short arm action to 2nd base. An earlier set-up and target, and gaining ground to throw will help catching get better. Offensively, Straton has a tall stance, a short stride, and fast bat speed. He swings on plane, makes square contact, and he shows the ability to spray to all fields. Improved timing and more lower 1/2 will help hitting spike.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
