12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City Thompson is a very coachable young man who listens and works hard to be the best player he can be and continues to show as a 3B/RHP with potential at both positions. He displays active feet and works through a low approach with clean / soft hands and displays smooth / fluid actions. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but needs to work to get rid of the baseball quicker and build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he has improved his power grades through an balanced / squared setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 80-83 mph. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength.

09/18/2013 - Under Armour Fall Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Taj is a special young player that brings a positive demeanor with good energy to the ball club. On the mound is where he projects best, with clean/free arm action and easy action. He has good pitchability and has raw velo with his arm speed. At third, he has playable footwork and sure hands. He presents the glove very well and showed an ability to make plays, throwing accurately with some carry. Offensively, he is aggressive, and gets the barrel to the ball. On the bases, he looks to advance and did so on a base hit to center with a runner on 2B. In all - with energy, poise and clean arm action, Taj Thompson projects nicely at the next level.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
