Official Scouting Report

01/17/2025 - 2025 Baseball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament Tanner continues to impress with his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he shows best through a squared setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Lower half works well through the swing through an aggressive hip turn. At 3B, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is firm but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-70 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with short break. He attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

10/09/2024 - Arizona Freshman Fall Classic (2028) Tanner Fish is a versatile and hardworking 2029 prospect out of West Chicago, IL with strong skills both defensively and offensively, as well as on the mound. At the Arizona Freshman Fall Classic, Tanner demonstrated solid defensive fundamentals. He showed really good hands at third base and made accurate throws, showcasing his strong arm. While his range could use some development, his defensive foundation is solid, and with continued work, he can improve his lateral movement and become a more dynamic defender. On the mound, Tanner’s fastball was clocked at 71 MPH, and his changeup at 62 MPH demonstrated some effective off-speed movement. While he has the tools to succeed, he will need to work on his command of both pitches to increase his consistency and effectiveness. With refinement in his pitching mechanics and better pitch location, Tanner can become a reliable option on the mound. At the plate, Tanner has a nice setup and a mechanically sound swing, which provides a strong foundation for future development. While he is still working on adding more power to his swing, he demonstrated solid contact ability. He drew one walk and collected one single, driving in an RBI, which showcases his ability to contribute in key situations. As Tanner continues to build strength and fine-tune his swing, his offensive potential will only grow. Overall, Tanner Fish is a promising dual-position player with a solid all-around skill set. His defensive reliability, pitching potential, and ability to contribute offensively make him an exciting prospect. With continued focus on improving his power, pitching command, and range, Tanner has a bright future ahead.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
