Official Scouting Report

  • OFPosition Projection

06/22/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Tanner is a coachable OF prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Omaha National World Series. In the field, Tanner shows efficient footwork and works behind the ball well. He gets into position on time and fields with sure hands. He throws from a high 3/4 angle and keeps his throws accurate to his target. Making a quicker exchange can help Tanner improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He gets into a small load and drives through well with his lower half. He produces fast bat speed through the zone, leading to loud contact and gap to gap pop. Tanner can improve as a hitter by taking a more level swing path. Overall, Tanner is a solid prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

07/09/2018 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Tanner continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities. In the OF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He utilizes his quick feet in covering a lot of ground and makes the routine plays. He shows good game awareness and does a nice job of backing up bases. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 5 for 10 with a 2B and 3B. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 67-68 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

11/09/2017 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Tanner is a long, lean two-way player with raw ability and a projectable frame. His arm has really developed as he now gets up to 67mph on the mound and has a good arm from the outfield. He shows a simple approach at the plate, using all fields and covering the entire strike zone. He shows a square stride to get on time and make consistent, solid contact to all fields. In the outfield, he shows feel for the position with a quick first step and good reads on fly balls. He has a strong glove lane to field with presented hands and throw with accuracy to his target. On the mound, he works straight over the top and creates deception to hitters in his arm swing. He hides the ball well and features a mid to upper 60's fastball. Developing a secondary pitch or two will allow him to get through lineups much easier. Tanner is a player we will definitely be keeping an eye on.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
