Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

05/04/2014 - National Tryout - Lakewood (Denver), CO Tanner continues to show as an OF/RHP but currently projects best in the OF for the next level where he has improved his abilities. Foot speed his improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 7.06. Defensive grades have improved, now showing solid abilities as he displays clean / athletic actions. He reads balls well off the bat and takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind, playing through with momentum to his target. At the plate, power grades have really improved, now showing superior power through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work inside the ball as he utilizes all fields displaying gap to gap pop. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 73-77 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength and works to throw more strikes.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Tanner is an athletic OF that also pitches. In the outfield is has quick feet, fields with sure hands, and plays through the ball well. He is aggressive with his approach, but stays under control with his body. His exchange is quick and he makes accurate throws with good life from the outfield. On the mound, Tanner works quick and has a good tempo. He pounds the zone with his fastball and curve. He has a big frame and hides the ball well making him a tough look for hitters. Tanner has a lot of upside on the mound, but needs to clean his mechanics up to make him more consistent. Offensively he has a smooth load, strong balance, and delivers the barrel with force. He made solid contact during games and has a lot of power potential. He is a line drive hitter that will only get better with more strength and should fit nicely at the next level in any lineup.

10/06/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Parker (Denver), CO Tanner is a big, strong, 2-way player with good skills. On the mound, Tanner has a strong arm, solid mechanics, and he uses his lower body well. He works to his balance point well, competes in the zone, and he finishes completely. In the OF, Tanner has playable hands and feet, he makes plays consistently, and he throws with carry and accuracy to his target. At the plate, Tanner has an athletic set-up, a square stride, and a level swing. He attacks the ball aggressively, he has fast bat speed, and he hits hard with very good pop in his bat for his age. Abilities can improve with work on the following.

2. Stay tall- backside
3. Lengthen arm action
Outfield
1. Lighten / quicken feet
2. Play through more

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
