11/03/2019 - College PREP - Potomac, MD Tanner continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities on the mound. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 75 mph. Fastball shows good sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 62-64 mph with 2/8 shape with gradual break. Changeup sits from 61-63 mph with tailing action. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

10/12/2018 - College Recruiting Day - Columbia, MD Tanner is a LHP/OF prospect who will gradaute in 2021. On the mound, Tanner starts with a small rocker step and gathers to a balance point over the rubber. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 70mph with sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 57-58mph with 12-6 break. Changeup sits at 60mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Loosening his arm action can help Tanner improve as a pitcher. In the field, Tanner shows aggressive footwork and shows the ability to finish plays. He fields in an atheltic position and works behind the ball well. He gets rid of the ball quickly and works to make accurate throws to his target. Tanner can improve defensively by shortening his arm action. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is controlled getting into his load and hits from a strong front side. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed which leads to consistent contact. Activating his hands in his load can help Tanner improve as a hitter. With three more years to develop, Tanner has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
