06/14/2019 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series (Ages 14-18) Tanner hustled and showed the ability to play multiple positions out in Omaha. At SS Tanner showed active feet with a + 1st step and agile range. He fielded the ball low and out front with clean exchanges. He gets rid of the ball quick with a clean arm action. Long tossing and getting stronger will help Tanner become a higher-level SS. At the plate Tanner showed he could swing it from both sides. Both setups were square with loose hands. He strides square and was able to extend through the pitch to make contact. On the mound tanner showed exceptional command throwing 10/11 pitches for strikes. He showed a 2-pitch mix with a FB/CB. He was square on the rubber, gathered well, and separated on time to stride in line to the target. He landed controlled and rotated through to finish his delivery. Tanner is young and shows potential to be a solid two-way player on the diamond.

05/12/2019 - College PREP - Lakewood (Denver), CO Tanner is an athletic SS/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. In the field, Tanner shows active footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into a low position and fields the ball with a firm glove. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate and on-line to his target. Consistently fielding with his hands out in front of his body can help Tanner improve defensively. At the plate, this switch hitter shows a solid swing from both sides. He sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He gets into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed, leading to solid contact to all fields. Working a smoother rhythm into his load can help Tanner improve as a hitter. On the mound, Tanner gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He stays inline towards the plate and finishes with his chest over his front knee. Tanner shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 75mph with cutting action. Breaking ball sits from 60-63mph with 10-4 break. Loosening his arm action can help Tanner improve as a pitcher. With three more years to develop, Tanner has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

09/16/2018 - College PREP - Parkville (Kansas City), MO Tanner is a lean SS/RHP who will graduate in 2022. At SS, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks ground balls but needs to play through more with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows as a switch hitter but currently projects best as a RHH. Hands are loose and work through level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 65-67 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight cutting action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. With 4 years to further develop, Tanner has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
