04/28/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Charlottesville, VA Tanner continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.20 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He tracks the ball well and presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to get body down sooner to improve grade. At 3B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft but needs to present more out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, power potential has improved, now showing outstanding abilities through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered.

07/23/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Tanner is a lean, athletic catcher who has a tremendous future on the diamond. At the plate, is where he shows best, displaying solid hitting / power potential through athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.46 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he works to get rid of the baseball quicker and builds more arm strength. Glove action is soft and sticks ball well through the receiving process. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to increase quickness and get body down sooner to improve grade. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 5 years to further develop, Tanner has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
