12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Tanner is a solid 2-way player who is coachable, hard working and showed well during his time at Pirate City. With the bat, this RHH shows a square/athletic setup with centered balance and fluid rhythm to load. Quick hands fire the barrel to and through the zone quickly. He barrels the ball up and drives it with pop (exit velocity = 86 mph). Behind the plate, Wood sits in with flexion and tracks pitches into a soft mitt. He centers pitches in the dirt off of his chest and deadens the ball in front. Throws to 2B are on the bag with pop times remaining in the low 2's. He does a nice job being the vocal leader on the field - which is what you want out of your catcher. Tanner (6'0"/205) has a ton of upside and a solid all-around skill-set that will provide success on the diamond.

10/30/2016 - College PREP - Sanford (Orlando), FL Tanner is a strong 1B and catcher who will graduate in 2018. Behind the dish, he showed quiet actions and good directional skills on his blocks. He also showed a plus arm, with pop times sitting in the low to mid 2.1 range, occasionally touching 2.2. At times, Tanner can get high on his throws to second. Staying in an athletic position out of his crouch to throw to 2nd will help shave time off of his pop time. At 1st base, he showed a good feel for the position, working around the bag fluidly with good footwork and also showed a plus arm for the position. At the plate, he sprayed the ball to all fields well, a result of the good balance and quiet head he maintains throughout his swing. Incorporating more of his lower 1/2 into his swing will help with power to all fields. Tanner is a well rounded player and has a very bright future in this game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
