10/15/2023 - National Showcase - Washington (Pittsburgh), PA Tate is a tall, solid RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, he works through a quick tempo. Fastball showed a range of 74-77 mph with arm side run with sink. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with downward break. He maintains arm speed on his knuckleball with sinking action. Control is solid as the attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn.

01/14/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Pre-Season Prospects Tournament (MS) Tate is a hard working 3B/C in the class of 2026 out of Jefferson, OH. At 3B, he did a good job of making the routine plays and fielding the ground ball with soft hands. He makes clean exchanges and throws with a short arm action across the diamond. At the plate, he uses a square set up wit ha short stride to work to a firm front side. He showed quick hands through the zone which enabled him to make solid contact to all fields with power potential. With 3 years to further develop, Tate has potential with time and room to progress his game.

11/04/2021 - Baseball Factory Select Training at Pirate City Tate is a C/3B prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Select Training at Pirate City. Behind the dish, Tate presents a good target and tracks the ball into his glove. His exchange is clean and he makes accurate throws to the 2B bag. He is on time moving to block and covers up well, keeping dirt balls in front of him. Sitting in a more athletic stance can help Tate improve his overall catching ability. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a soft stride. He gets into a small load and works through a short/level swing. He generates fast bat speed through the zone and drives the ball to his pull side. Tate can produce more pop off the barrel by driving his lower half more. With five more years to develop, Tate has the time and potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

09/12/2021 - All-In Membership - Erie, PA Tate is an athletic 3B/C who will graduate in 2026. At 3B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works to square ball and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases foot quickness. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Pop times showed in 2.89 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 5 years to further develop, Tate has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
