Tate continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. He shows a four pitch mix in his arsenal. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 75 mph. Fastball showed a range of 73-75 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 58-61 mph with 11/5 shape gradual break. Changeup sits from 59-61 mph with cutting action. Slider has tight spin with short break. He can improve as a pitcher by long tossing to build up his arm strength.
12/20/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18)
Tate is a tall, lean RHP/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, he displays fluid / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 66-75 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a great teammate. With 4 years to further develop, Tate has potential with time and room to continue to progress his game.
