03/11/2018 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX Tate continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 6 time to date, now a superior runner at 6.78. In the OF, he takes proper routes/angles in tracking balls down. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Hands/feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with carry on his throws. Behind the plate, Tate had a low pop time of 2.3. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft/sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process but will benefit by working to get his body down sooner. At the plate, he shows a crouched setup with balance. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path. He flashes pop with power showing best to the pull side. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Tate.

10/29/2017 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX Tate is a muscular, athletic senior OF prospect who stands out on the field. He shows blazing speed that shows up in his range in the field and in his ability to take extra bases. He works the middle of the field at the plate with a compact swing and direct path to the ball to cover the strike zone. His hands are quick and strong, creating fast bat speed through the zone to make consistent, hard contact to all fields. His efficient angles in the outfield coupled with his great speed gives him tons of range to track down balls in the gaps. He is athletic to field with firm hands to keep everything in front and makes all of the plays. Implementing a long toss program will improve arm strength and accuracy to make him a complete defender. Tate is an intriguing prospect who we look forward to continue watching.

05/21/2017 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Tate continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities. In the OF, he utilizes his quick feet well in tracking down balls, displaying range. He works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a solid line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

12/27/2016 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Tate is an athletic 2018 OF prospect who is a true gamer and does whatever is necessary on the field. He uses his good strength and leverage in his swing to generate power at the plate and show extra base ability with a gap to gap approach. He is on time in the box with his load and lower body, has a quick bat through the zone with strong wrists, putting the ball in play consistently. His aggressive lower half and ability to finish on a firm front side contributes to his pop and as he grows, will show even more power. In the outfield, his setup is athletic and ready to drive to the ball with a quick first step and efficient angles. His range is extended to more than cover his position and he tracks down balls with a quiet head to keep them in his sight. Finishing through his throws and staying direct to his target will result in stronger, more accurate throws moving forward. Tate is an intriguing prospect and we look forward to continue following him in the years ahead.

10/09/2016 - College PREP - Austin, TX Tate is an athletic, hard working 2018 OF prospect. He is a very steady outfielder with the ability to make all of the routine plays with good agility and instincts. At the dish, this RHH has an opposite field approach with good tracking ability and the comfort to see lots of pitches in his at bats. He keeps good balance in his swing and can keep his weight back as he lets the ball travel deep in the zone. Leveling out his swing path will go a long way to increasing his contact ability and allow his approach to shine through. In the field, this prospect takes efficient routes to the ball, giving him extended range while using his athleticism to get a quick first step. He surrounds ground balls and squares himself to throw accurately to his target. Tate is a prospect we look forward to watching progress.

05/22/2016 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Tate is an athletic R/R OF who has a strong frame. In the OF, he hustles to his right and left to track down fly-balls with speed (now running his 60 in 7.06). He secures the ball with 2-hands, gathers well and has a clean transfer to throw. As a hitter - Tate has simple/quiet actions. He tracks pitches into the zone and off of the barrel, squaring it up and driving it back up the middle of the field. Swinging on a shorter/more direct path with increased bat speed will increase power. A 2018 grad - Tate is a hard worker who will only continue to progress.

06/13/2015 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Tate worked out behind the dish during his time in Omaha. Defensively, Tate sits in athletically, he has good body control, and moves well laterally. He works hard to keep the ball in front when blocking, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy to his target. Offensively, Tate has an athletic/balanced set-up, a square stride, and good bat speed. He has potential at the plate, rotates his back foot well, and the ball comes off the bat well. He is a coachable player who asks questions and shows he wants to get the best out of himself. Only a 2018 grad - Tate still has a ton of time to develop his skills.

05/31/2015 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Tate is a R/R catcher who has a solid build. Behind the dish, he sits in well with quiet actions, sticking pitches in the zone. He works hard laterally, centering balls in the dirt off of his chest. Exchange is clean with accurate throws to 2B, pop times of 2.38. Times will continue to drop if he can quicken his transfer/exchange and gain more ground toward 2B. With the bat, this righty shows a balanced approach with patience, waiting for his pitch. Swing is level as he drives the ball back up the middle of the field. More lower 1/2 drive throughout the swing will help to increase power at the plate. Once on base, he's a threat to steal with his speed (7.06 60 yard dash). Only a 2018 grad - Tate has skills with still has a ton of time to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
