Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

10/23/2019 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Taven continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, he shows active footwork and presents his glove out front to field. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and he is a quality receiver. He has a quick release and allows his throws to remain accurate and carry through his target. At the plate, hitting / power potential is now well above average through an athletic setup. He is smooth getting into his load and comes through the zone well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing to the ball with fast bat speed (88 mph exit velocity) which leads to hard contact. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 78-81 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and has solid leadership traits.

08/11/2019 - College PREP - Waipahu, HI Taven is a stocky RHP/1B that will graduate in 2022. At 1B Taven has effective footwork and centers the ball fielding it athletically as he presents his hands in front of his body. He makes clean exchanges and creates momentum to his target making consistent throws with carry. Working on quicker footwork will help Taven improve his game. At the plate he sets up square getting a short and square stride with fluid and smooth timing. His balance stays centered as he fires his lower half through getting the barrel on-plane. Taven makes hard contact with a line drive approach. On the mound Taven shows a 2-pitch mix with a FB/CB combo. On the mound he gathers over the rubber well as he separates on time and gets good extension to the plate. His lower half works well as he rotates through finish. Taven is a young player that already has a good frame to build on and will be a guy to watch the next few years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
