06/13/2009 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1
Beattie lowered his 60-yard dash over six tenths of a second, down from 7.82 to 7.21. In addition, he jumped his top end fastball velocity three mph, up from 76 to 79. His change registered at 72 mph, while his curve was 68 and his slider topped at 75. His fastball had good movement, and he did a good job of going after hitters. Tended to be up in the zone with his breaking balls, and needs to work to stay closed longer with his front shoulder. At the plate, he showed a good hitting approach along with a short, compact stroke. Has the pieces of a quality young hitter, just needs to work on staying back and letting the ball travel. His outfield arm strength improved over a half grade, and he took good routes to balls. Overall, a solid young 2011 graduate with some two-way potential as he continues to develop.

Taylor is a young RHP with a tall, lanky frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Delivery is outstanding with solid mechanics and athletic actions, displaying plus tempo through a solid repeatable delivery allowing his arm to work clean, free away from his body. Arm strength is near average and needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and raise velocities. Fastball shows some arm side run. Changeup is his best off speed pitch showing a solid feel for with sinking action. Breaking ball is slightly above average displaying an 11/6 shape with tight spin. Command and control is near above average with all his pitches. If arm strength continues to improve, his stock on the mound will rise quickly. With 2 years to further develop, Beattie has the makings to become a quality arm.
