07/27/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - York, PA Teddy is a talented catcher who has a strong/projectable frame. Behind the dish, he sits in well with athletic/quiet actions tracking pitches into a soft mitt. He takes good angles around pitches in the dirt and centers/deadens them off of his chest. Throws to 2B are on the bag with strength & carry. As a hitter, this righty shows a solid/balanced stance with active/loose hands. He swings with a purpose, connects and drives the ball with pull-side power. Ruffner is a skilled catching prospect who has what it takes to play at a high level.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Teddy is an athletic C/2B prospect who showed well at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. Behind the plate, Teddy sits in an athletic stance and receives with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gains ground well on his throws, working to keep them accurate to the 2B bag. He is smooth moving to block and covers up well. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a relaxed stance and takes a short stride. He is controlled getting into a simple load and hits against a strong front side. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to great gap to gap pop. Overall, Teddy is a talented prospect who has the skill set to contribute at the next level.

07/31/2019 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Teddy continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond. Foot speed continues to be a tremendous tool as indicated by his 6.68 60 time. Behind the plate, he utilizes his quick feet well in working in line through a clean transfer/exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He shows accuracy with his arm behind the plate and zip (91 mph velocity) to his target. Hands are soft/sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Receiving/blockings skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work to and through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a team player, coachable, and plays the game hard.

06/25/2019 - Accelerated College PREP - Erie, PA Teddy is an athletic C/2B prospect who will graduate in 2021. Behind the plate, Teddy shows quick footwork and is agile moving to block. He sits in an athletic stance and presents a good target to the pitcher. He makes a quick exchange and makes accurate throws with carry through the 2B bag. At 2B, Teddy shows quick footwork and takes good angles to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields with soft hands. He makes a quick exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistent with carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He gets back into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a short swing with explosive bat speed, leading to loud contact and great gap to gap power. Overall, Teddy is a talented prospect who will be one to follow going into his junior season.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
