06/13/2015 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Mattingly continues to show as a RHP/SS at the event with improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, hands are clean and moves well laterally. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls more while presenting hands more out front. At the plate, hitting / power grade has improved, through an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path as he makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he works to use his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he through his top velocity at 75 mph. Fastball showed a range of 72-75 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Knuckleball shows potential as being a quality pitch, displaying good downward action. Control is a solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/25/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Terry is an athletic RHP with a lot of potential on the mound. He throws a hard fastball with good arm side run and late sink. His changeup showed good sink and he understands how to use it to change speeds. Terry has the potential to be a ground ball pitcher and get a lot of outs as he moves to the next level. At the plate he starts with an open stance, has good balance, and a level swing. He showed a disciplined approach during games seeing a lot of pitches and worked hard to get into hitters counts. With Terry's big body and mound presence, his future is on the mound and he will be fun to watch as he matures.

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic Terry is a young, athletic two-way player who is an IF and excels on the mound as a RHP. On the mound, Terry commands multiple pitches (FB, CB,CH,KN) with good arm action and a clean release. He repeats his delivery well and continues to deceive hitters due to his consistent arm action and release. He continues to improve his arm strength and hone his mechanics. At SS, Terry has a quick release during the fielding process and good footwork. As he improves his pre-pitch setup and movements, he will continue to grow as an infielder. At the plate, Terry has a quick bat and puts the ball in play. He strives to improve his stride load and bat control as he grows into a better ballplayer.

07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training at Vero Beach (Ages 12-14) Terry is a tall RHP who also plays shortstop. On the mound, he has a loose and clean arm action with life on his fastball. He gets to a good balance point and repeats his delivery. He showcased a good 3-pitch mix with the ability to throw all his pitches for strikes. In the infield, he has soft/sure hands, active feet, and playable range. He plays thru the ball well and makes accurate throws to 1st. At the plate, he has an athletic setup, good load, and short stride. He uses his lower half well and has fast bat speed for his age. Terry made consistent contact all week and sprayed the ball to all fields.

05/19/2013 - Interactive Video Program - San Antonio, TX Terry is a tall, 2-way player with a thin frame. On the mound, Terry has a long / loose arm action, his shoulders are level, and he has good direction toward home. At SS, Terry has active feet, sure hands, and he covers ground well. He plays through, he squares up well to his target, and he delivers the ball with accuracy from a loose arm action. At the plate, Terry has an open set-up, a short stride, and he lets the ball travel. He makes contact and flashes some pop in his bat. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
