07/10/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National East This speedy LHH athlete makes things happen. With the bat, he whips the barrel through the zone with speed connecting and hitting hard line-drives. He has the ability to hit the ball where it's pitched, using the entire field. Once on base, he's a threat to steal with his speed. At SS, Tervont moves well laterally with smooth actions. He funnels to a smooth exchange and fires accurate throws across the diamond. A lead off type of guy - Johnson's tools will play at a very high level.

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Johnson continues to show solid / steady play in his baseball abilities. In the MIF, he moves well laterally, displaying range and shows soft / sure hands. Feet / hands work well through the fielding actions, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Athletic abilities are shown off in his feeds / turn of the double play and has big play potential in the MIF. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields.

11/01/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures South Johnson posted 7.15 in the 60 yard dash on a cold day, and got down the line in 4.39 - with the home to 1B more representative of his speed. He again showed quick hands to contact, his move is loose and he has bat speed when he keeps his legs underneath him. He tends to give up with his front side early and drags his back foot some, but his best moves are impressive and there is clear difference in the way the ball reacts off the bat. He has the makings of a high quality hitter, and has surprising pop. Defensively, he sits back some and tends to play high. Can work to direct his actions lower and more thru the play towards the target. Has ability to work with, likely a fit on the 2B side of the bag or even in the OF. Overall, follow the bat and see how he develops defensively.

09/20/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures East Johnson has a slender, athletic build at 6-foot and 165 pounds. He ran 6.95 in the 60 yard dash, and got down the line in 4.5 from the left side of the plate. He features excellent hands to hit, he works them to contact quickly and whips the barrel thru the zone - allowing him to drive the ball with wood bat, has surprising pop. His approach is somewhat complicated, mainly in his pre-pitch action with his hands and arms - he is able to get the barrel back to contact now, and should gain consistency with this given time and strength. His natural ability to hit with his hands makes him a very interesting prospect. Defensively, he has body control and can make plays off balance. He seems more comfortable on the run, a trait more commonly seen in the OF than in the INF. His arm stroke has depth from the glove, and he seems to need an extra step to get set - again, a trait more commonly seen in the OF. With that said, he is athletic enough to develop in the INF, and staying there would give his left handed bat maximum value. Overall, a high ceiling player - keep a close eye on him.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
