09/30/2018 - College PREP - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Tommy is an athletic C prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Tommy shows quick footwork and creates good angles when blocking. He sits in an athletic stance and tracks the ball into his glove. He makes a quick exchange and gains momentum well on his throws to 2B, keeping them accurate with good carry through the bag. Tommy can improve as a C by presenting his glove out front to the pitcher. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and hits from s strong front side. He takes a direct swing with decent bat speed which leads to consistent contact and line drives. Tommy can improve as a hitter by getting his stride foot down sooner. Overall, Tommy is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Tommy is a gamer who continues to hone his craft and gets the job done when he's called upon. He has good feel to hit with the ability to deliver the barrel to the ball consistently due to his efficient swing path. He has great hand-eye coordination that leads to lots of contact and he shows impressive strike zone discipline to not expand the zone. He gets on plane early and stays balanced throughout his swing to use all fields for base hits. Behind the plate he sets up with a low target and tracks the ball well to keep his body quiet and stick pitched. He is quick to transfer and get rid of the ball to post low (2.19 seconds) pop times to second. Working on dropping to block will help make him a complete catcher. Tommy is a hard working player who would make any team better.

09/24/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Tacoma (Seattle), WA Tommy is a wiry, projectable built catching prospect who has a talented skill set. Offensively, Tommy has a tall setup with his weight in the front of his stance. He has smooth rhythm with a good load and on-time stride as his lower half leads his swing. He has an on-plane swing path consistently landing the barrel to the baseball. Tommy is a line drive type hitter who can drive the ball to the opposite field. Behind the plate, Tommy has an effective setup and moves with quick footwork. He receives the ball deep and sticks it on the corners. Tommy is quick to his knees when needing to block while maintaining an effective chest angle. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot and is building arm strength. Overall, Tommy is a well-rounded prospect who has a solid approach to the game on both sides of the ball.

06/25/2017 - College PREP - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Tommy is a lean, athletic catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed a range of 2.29-2.36 with accuracy / carry on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he tracks balls well through the receiving process. He uses his body well through the blocking process and moves well laterally, centering all balls out front. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying solid hitting abilities with well above average power potential. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. With 2 years to further develop, Tommy has a ton of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
